When selecting a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres and is an essential aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.
Once you have the correct PZ size you will then need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you require for your doors. Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with internal and external doors generally needing different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is essential. It depends on the use that your doors and handles receive. Doors that are external, for instance should be equipped with cylinders with greater security and internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place however, if this is not possible, you may remove it to measure. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is crucial that it's not too long.
Most newer cylinders have been made with anti-drill and bump resistance features built into their design. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This will help deflect the attack, and ensure your door is secure.
There are cylinders that are designed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to snap off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than using the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can hinder insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette sits within the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. These handles used to have no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. The addition of this simple element is among the best ways to correct this, and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in an open or closed position, as these aren't always simple to close manually.
These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with sprung multipoint locks, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you must have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They have a square cut out which can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.
